Behind the Name: Message: "ELITA?"

This board says about ELITA: Possibly derived from French élite meaning "chosen".

I know an elderly German lady by that name and she says she has no French roots whatsoever. She claims, her name must ba a variant of Elisa(beth).

What do you think?
