"Nine-uh" was how most Americans pronounced Nina back in the 19th century. I've known more than one older woman who pronounced her name that way. It's only with increased exposure to the use of the name in a Spanish and Italian context that "Neena" became the more common pronunciation of Nina among the majority population in the USA.
