Can anyone tell me the origin and meaning of the name Canny? Is it a first name for a boy or it's a girl's name?

I know an old/middle aged American man named Canny. He pronounces it "CAIN-ee."

I've never seen it as a name, but it could be a nickname for various names starting with Ca-.
