Candice is an alternate spelling of the name Candace...
it is the name of a queen in the Bible and means purity or clarity. It comes from the latin name Canditia

Daisymae is right that Candace is indeed a queen [mentioned] in the Bible. It was her treasurer in a chariot that Philip converted to Christianity in the Book of Acts (if I'm wrong on this, consider I haven't been to church much this year). She was supposedly the Queen of Ethiopia (not Ras Tafari's wife, tho), and Bible name expert Hitchcock (100 years dead, alas) gives its meaning as "who possesses contrition" (i.e., she's sorry for past actions).Have I used up my monthly quota of parentheses yet?

Candice and Candace originates from Candace Amanirenas, who, with her son, Prince Akinidad, directed a dawn attack on the Roman garrison at Syene, today's Aswan. The leader greatly impressed classical writers, who mistook the royal title of Candace for a personal name.Splendors of the Past Lost Cities of the Ancient World, National Geographic Society, pg. 171
