In the North-East of England, hinny is an endearment, not a name - like honey, of which it's a form. And in southern Scotland I've heard what I take to be the same word, shortened: hen. So if there's some famiy connection to that part of the world, it looks as if someone took the word and made it a name. Happens all the time ...
