What is the meaning of Ilyana?

My friend's mom's name is Ilyana. She is from Guatamala but her father was the one who picked that name for her. I asked her why he chose that name and what it meant, but to this day she has no idea. She has been asked several times if she is Russian? I have spent the morning doing web searches with no luck. Does anyone know the meaning of this name?

Ilyana is popular in Bulgaria. It is the feminine form of ILIA. Russians do not have feminine form of ILIA, I do not know why.

Maybe a variant of Ileana or Eliana.
Ilya is a Russian name but a male one.
