Aldys
My husband's Sweedish and German grandmother (78) is named Aldys. She doesn't know where it's from, and it's not on this site. Does anyone have any info on Aldys?~ EM

Hi ElleMichelle,There's a Swedish name Aldis. It's a short form of Alfdis:http://www.nordicnames.de/flick_a/Alfdis.htmlIn Norway, Aldis can be a variant form of Halldis:http://www.nordicnames.de/flick_h/Halldis.html/ Satuhttp://www.nordicnames.de/

I found the name Aldis. Aldis is derived from Alde. Alde is shorter from of a name with 'ald' or 'adel'. 'Ald' is a Germanic element meaning 'old' or 'experienced, grown'.
'Adel' is a Germanic element as well. This means 'noble'. http://www.meertens.nl/voornamen/VNB/index.php
