Name: Jophis
In researching family roots I found two Irish realatives (brothers) who landed in Pennsylvania in the mid-1800's and wound up living right next door to each other. They used our family's typical first names for most of their kids, but each had a boy they named Jophis and that seemed out of the blue. But I noticed there was a man on the same block who was about 30 years older than them named Jophis who was originally from Ireland. He was born around 1842. They could have named the kids after this neighbor. Does anyone know where that name came from? I've been cruising the web and haven't found it so far. My first guess is that it's some variation of Joseph, but I'd rather see if anyone knows for sure. Thanks!
