Thank you Andrea - my, that was nearly an instant response.. The family has wracked their collective brain on this and we've gone through the variations of Mortimer and all sorts of other origins sites and research dictionaries. The French-connection might hold some water, as we've found links from his grandmother way back into early France. But I seriously doubt they new of that back then.. I'm hoping to find a usage of the name elsewhere in the world... One would hope his parents based it on something in either of their families that we don't know of, rather than just winging it. Or worse yet, intending some other name, and just misspelling it.

According to the kabalarians, Ogilvie is Scottish. Through a search, I've found that Ogilvie is a Scottish Clan from the 1100's:http://www.tartans.com/clans/Ogilvie/ogilvie.html
