I don't know but maybe a variant of Boris?- She said he made a racial slur!
- Racial? She is Swedish!
- Maybe he called her Meatball.Equality never goes out of style.

I don't think so. if the name exists at all, I'm pretty sure it is unrelated to Boris.___________________________________________Pureness rules the world

There is Borut, which is a form of BorisSo why would Borat not be a form of Boris? Especially since Kazakstan once was a part of the Sovietrussian empire.Of course, I have no proof and this is just if Borat is a real name in Kazakstan.- She said he made a racial slur!

I have never heard of Borut... maybe you're right and it is related to Boris, but then it can't be related to Borat (assuming that this names exists at all). Not all similaar-sounding names/words are necessarily related. Kazakh language is not related to Russian, as Kaleko points out, it's Turkic, and I see no way Kazakh names can be related to Russian names.___________________________________________Pureness rules the world

I don't think it's Russian. I can't find anything about Borat being a real name, but the -at ending makes it sound like a name from a Turkic language (and Kazakh is part of the Turkic langugage family). For example, this site (in Russian) has some Kazakh names on it: http://www.kazakh.ru/about/name/ There is no Borat or anything similar to it, but several with the -at ending: Azamat, Azat, Askhat, Akhat, Bekzat, Murat, Samat (all male),
Bakizat, Gul'shat, Zumrat, Kayrat (all female).
For most the origin is given as Arabic, for some Iranian (Persian would be more correct).Maybe Baron Cohen made up a name, modeled on existent names of that region. If it does exist, it might be related to Bora (Turkish name), but that's just a guess - and a veeeery long shot.*****
