Subject: Kelly, personal and origin, e-mail to Mike

Mike,
I went to the Behind the Name site. It does not appear to be able
to answer my questions on the name Kelly.

1st) When did the name Kelly begin to be used for females instead
of just males? I know for fact, that it has been used for men for
over 150 years, I do not think it has been used that long for
females, maybe just 50 years.

2nd) You state that Kelly as a surname is Irish and English. I
know that it was also a surname in Scotland to the north and west
of Glasgow ( I do not have a map handy to know the county). So
where did it first appear, in Ireland or Scotland?

I know you do not normally answer e-mails, but would appreciate
one.
Thank you for your time.
