Hopefully one of the others here will be able to provide you with more in-depth info (especially regarding possible Asian origins, which I have no clue about), but from what I've read, the anglicized version of Onofrio is Humphrey , which you can learn more about on this site by clicking on the blue "Humphrey ".

I dunno about any possible Asian origins to this name (sounds unlikely, to me) but I think you nailed the equivalent of "Onofrio" perfectly, Melissa . :)
