Andonicus or Andronikos is derived from the Greek "andros" ("of a man") and "nike" ("victory").Athamas was King of Orchomenus and son of Aeolus . His first wife was the the goddess Nephele . The origin of his name is obscure, even though some references relare it to the Hebrew name Thomas .

Athamas...Do you suppose there may be some connection between the name "Athamas" and the "athame" -- the "air dagger" ceremonial tool used by some neopagans? I don't know the origin of the word "athame", but I was wondering if there might be some connection there.-- Nanaea

Hmmm...quite plausible :)Havent found an etymology for "athame", any ideas?
The only alternative long-shot etymologies I can conjecture could me "adamas" ("diamond") or "athambia" ("imperturbability")
