The History of Talia?
Does anyone know the history of the name Talia? I checked out the name in the database on BTN it said that it derived from Talya which is hebrew with the meaning dew from God. But there are many different spelling variants and I didn't know if it was possible that it could have an alternate meaning or orgin. Some other spelling I have come across were Taliah, Tahlia and Thalia. Any suggestions to the history of this name. I have been researching differnt T names that Im considering using but the meaning and history are important to me to know first. I do love the meaning Dew from God. Im just curious on the history and any alternate orgins or meanings that this name might have. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. It is truly appreciated :) Thanks !!!!!~* Reality is for those who lack Imagination *~

The other spellings (Taliah, Tahlia etc) are just that - spelling variations. Changing the spelling of an existing name is a popular way of creating a "different-looking" name while maintaining the same sound. The variations don't have their own meanings. The two original names are Talia (Hebrew) and Thalia (Greek) - click the links.

Thank you very much :) So there is no way for Talia and Thalia to be related names? Sometimes when going throught the database I see some names have more than one orgin usage and I didn't know if Talia had any other orgin usages or if its just Hebrew and thats all. Do you know if there are any other orgins that used the name Talia? Thank you for any input I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Even though Talia and Thalia have distinctly different origins, I think it's possible that Talia could also be a form of Thalia in much the same way that Teresa was derived from Theresa. Not everyone pronounced the h and over time, it was dropped in some cultures. BTW, there is a Latina singer, Thalia, who pronounces her name without the h.Talia could also be a short form of Natalia.
