You should always provide all the information you have about the culture, language, religion etc. associated with the name when asking questions.

There is a Sanskrit word derived from the root word sama, cognate with English some/same, meaning any, all, even, smooth, level. sAmya is the common word for equality, but in also means equipoise, calmness, evenness, impartiality, justice, indifference, etc.

I have not heard it as a name in India.
