Lummus - meaning, native region, history?
My grandfather's middle name was Lummus. We have a mainly Scottish/German background, but I couldn't find anything close. It could be of a different origin than the ones I checked. After a little more research I found that it is also a surname (rare) in the south U.S., which is where that side of my family is from. Any information or help with root meanings would be greatly appreciated.

See: http://www.ancestry.com/learn/facts/Fact.aspx?=%2cfn&fid=10&fn=&ln=lummusaccording to this it's English. I would guess the name came from the surname. Maybe his parents included his mothers maiden name? (as with my grandfather)
