Reply to: what does this name mean? by Satine
Satine seems to be a feminization of the French word 'satin', meaning 'satin', the fabric. It is not used in France, but Emile Zola has made up the name Satin for a young prostitute in his book 'Nana', so it looks like Satin & Satine have 'bad reputation' connotations! :)

I hope it helps!
