Indeed, Don Quixote is among the sources I didn't meantioned yet I meant... Now I find reading Saavedra is easier in English than in Spanish and likewise reading Shakespeare or Poe is easier in Spanish than in English... Translations are at the same time simplifications (and betrayals to the origianl piece)... The Spanish version was ambigous with the "ponderous bough or branch" part... The English part corroborates what I said; Machuca meant either "pounder" or "much manly", anyway, it's a praise to Diego Perez de Vargas' fear... Thanks and bye.
