Gentius is like Gentile - one of a clan or family group. Gens means a clan, a group of families who share a commmon ancestor or think they do; they formed voting units in ancient Rome, for instance. So Gentius would just be an adjective meaning: clansman. Not necessarily well born - just, born into a particular group.

The English words gentle and genteel are derived from gens, but by a long and winding road.
