Can't say I've ever known anyone named "Joesph", but I wouldn't be surprised if a number of parents (or careless Health Department employees) might've recorded a lot of babies' names that way. After all, "Dorthy" ranks in the Top 1,000 names from the 1900s through the 1950s.
