As the years went by, the political situation gradually stabilised, if in a way akin to a dormant volcano. To quell the mobs, the government settled on a compromise, where superhumans who registered themselves were given added benefits and boons, whereas the strictly-secretive ones - like Paradox - didn't.
Evey didn't want to be a superhero. She had seen firsthand the toll it took on her family, and she did not want to inflict that upon someone else, especially knowing that her siblings had little such sentiments and may very well end up on the vigilante path themselves; especially Liam, who was showing illusionist abilities like his father.
However, not wanting to be a superhero doesn't equal shunning all superheroes from her path. Evey's first meeting with Hadley stemmed from the first Velocity's friendship with her parents. But he had since retired, leaving his Velocity codename and legacy in the hands of Hadley Grey, his nephew and protégé. Evey and Hadley struck a friendship of their own, and then, when they both turned twenty-two, married in a small chapel, the same one Mal and Eira married in years ago.
They were eventually blessed with three children. The eldest, EC, was named after her late grandmother, while Sweeney was named after Hadley's twin brother Caleb, and Ainsley was named after his great-grandfather. Like Mal, Hadley was an unregistered superhuman, which, while making Evey's mystery fiction writer their only source of income, allowed them to rest safe knowing that nobody, in or out of the government, knew who Velocity and his family were.
Meanwhile, after years of secretly training and preparing himself, Stephen walked up to Mal and asked for his permission to take on his mother's role as Obsidian. Mal found it not at all surprising, and after testing his adoptive son for a few rounds, agreed to pass on his late wife's superhero identity to him.
For fhe first time after many years, Obsidian is seen prowling the streets again. And what's more, this time, they're sticking around and breaking criminals' bones again.
