DD [10] Gloria Trinity Shepherd -"perfect" child; illegitimate (Roman and Domi's child)
DS [4] August Beau Shepherd -docile; illegitimate (Roman and Domi's child)Roman and Olive's marriage is a result of an arrangement between their two wealthy families. Although it became clear after less than a year of marriage that the two were just not compatible, they decided to stay married to please their families. They both knew that if they divorced they risked losing their share in their families fortunes and all the perks that came with the money. After much pressure from the families, Roman and Olive started actively trying to conceive during their second year of marriage, and welcomed a daughter, Sienna, late that year. Much to their surprise, when Sienna was just a couple of months old, Olive became pregnant again. Their son, Blake, was born to very stressed parents. At that point, Roman and Olive fought almost nonstop and their already unsteady relationship toppled. When Olive got pregnant with another child before Blake turned one, she assured Roman that the child was his. He believed her, and only started doubting when the child, a son called Trevor, was one. He didn't look much like either of them, but he did share some characteristics with Olive. Roman finally confronted Olive and asked for the truth. He wasn't very surprised or angry to find out that the boy was a result of an affair. The father, a much younger man, had taken off when he heard he was a father, and didn't come back. After Olive's affair, Roman and Olive sat down and decided to stop trying to make their relationship work. They stayed married, but both got out and started dating others. Roman immediately hit it off with a French real estate agent who shared his passion for both both singing and playing the guitar. His girlfriend, Dominique "Domi" Desjardins, was lively and passionate, and, though it took her a little while, she accepted Roman's situation. Olive didn't have the same type of luck. After many failed relationships, she started drinking more and more, only to be stopped by Roman after she became an alcoholic.Roman and Domi had been together for about three years when their first daughter was born. Gloria seemed to be the perfect child ever since she was born. She cried little, smiled a lot and was always eager to please. Roman adored her and the older kids got increasingly jealous. When Domi gave birth to a baby boy six years later, his older half-siblings were none too happy about him either. Gloria, always the exemplary child, welcomed her brother, August, with open arms.As the kids grew up, their parents' complicated lives effected them more than they could have predicted:Sienna became bitter, angry, and rebellious. She rejected everything she had ever been taught and did anything that would make her parents angry. And it really was anything. She got pregnant more than partly out of spite at sixteen. Contrary to what she thought would happen, her parents were supportive and encouraged her to keep the baby. They assured her that they would be ready to help out with the girl, Lydia, and Sienna finally started looking at them in a different light.Blake grew increasingly hot-headed as his life progressed. His family was always the talk of the town, and he knew that people talked about him behind his back. Consequently, he tended to think that anyone talking quietly was insulting him, and he got into fights because of it.When Trevor was eight his mother and step-father, having been attempting to convince their families that he was indeed Roman's son, realized they were fighting a losing battle. Without further ado they dropped him off at a British boarding school. Trevor, always the personable child, thrived away from his family's reputation, and quickly became the brightest and most popular child at the school.Gloria just seemed to push herself even harder to be perfect, but her parents hardly noticed the signs of depression. Trevor noticed, however, when he was home over Christmas one year, and convinced Gloria to get some help. Now she's better than ever and her parents assure her that she doesn't have to be perfect to be a perfect child.August is quiet and docile most of the time. He likes to draw and listen to his mom speak French to him, but he never gets worked up about anything. Gloria is trying to get him to open up, and she's recruited Trevor to help her whenever he gets home. Trevor has faith that he will be more opinionated as he gets older. He insists that it funs in the family.
