Three years have passed since Tess ascended the throne and gave birth to Sophie, and the first years of her rule have gone smoothly. Trade treaties have been renegotiated, and a pet project of Tess's, the development of a university, is underway. She hopes to bring in scholars and teachers from around the world to staff it, allowing students to develop skills in the arts, sciences, and philosophy as well as become exposed to worldwide perspectives.
Meanwhile, Sophie has been growing into a precocious and bold little toddler with a love for exploration and snuggling and a stubborn streak a mile wide. Her favorite question is why, which means the family and her caretakers spend a great deal of time answering questions. Tess and Henry are incredibly proud of her, and were thrilled to find they were expecting another baby. The final touches on the university building had just been completed when the little prince was born. Davey, as the family and country call him, has lighter hair than his sister's, nearer Tess's chocolate brown, but his father's deep brown eyes. Otherwise, he and Sophie look quite similar. Sophie is enamored of her little brother, and she spends hours talking to him and telling him the stories she just learned to make up. Tess and Henry love to watch the two of them together, and rocking them to sleep is something they never miss if they can help it.
