Isn't there a racist thing with Dixie? In Disney World, they had to change name of their resort Dixie Landings because people were offended.

I suppose some people (there are always idiots who have to think of race and the trouble they can cause by mentioning it, in my opinion they are racists) might get offended but I have black in me and am not offended.

I didn't know they'd gone and changed the name of Dixie Landings! My lifemate and I stayed at the old Dixie Landings on our 2nd trip to Disney World. (We're going back for our 5th trip this Thursday -- and staying at the Wilderness Lodge this time. Yay!)Tracie, I think you're extremely cool not to get offended by the word "Dixie". I live in New York (and being of Sephardic Jewish ancestry, I'm a mixture of Sicilian and Middle Eastern/Asian stock) so I'm not quite as close to the controversy that's brewing over stuff like this in the South right now. I think a lot of it is spill-over from the Confederate flag controversy -- and I thought it was pretty uncool of the South Carolina state government to fly that flag over public buildings, to begin with. What region of the country are you in, Tracie?-- Nanaea

Nanaea, I bet from the ancestry you give that you have a beautiful bone structure. Just imagining what people look like from their heritage is one of my favorite things to do. Strange but then again if there is only one of me I should make me as unique as possible.

I am not all black. Just a regular good ol' American Heinz 57. My ancestry is : American Indian (I hold a tribal card as do my children), Irish, Scottish, Black, German, French, and I am sure many other nationalities. I don't consider myself anything but American. I loathe people who can only think of race. They cause many more problems than they fix. Things happened long ago that were awful. The best we can do as a people is learn from them and not try to profit from them or use them as an excuse. I happened to like the flag but all are entitled to their opinion. I live in Oklahoma but am a PROUD Texan born and raised in East Texas an hour North of Houston. The only people I am prejudiced against is trash and I don't care what color they are. I do love the name Dixie though. It is very unusual and very feminine and reminds me of the song that I love to sing.

Yep, cooly expressed. :)

Some suggestions...America: (meaning obvious)
Liberty: (same)
Saoirse: (Irish name meaning freedom)If you want less unusual-sounding names, you could always pick a name of a famous American...George Washington, Susan B. Anthony, etc...and either use that or a feminine version of it (e.g. Georgia). Abraham Lincoln could become Abbie Lyn...Martin Luther King could become Martina Lucy. And so on.
