I have a good friend who is east indian, and female.
Her name is Mahathi.
In India appearntly it is a very popular girls name.
She wanted to know what it meant, and aksed me because she knows of my name adiction, lol.
We call her Mo, or Moe for short.
It is properly pronounced (Mah-haw-thee) not (Mah-haht-ee) or (Mah-hah-thee)
Can you guys help? It would be great :)

Vimla Patel, Babies' Names from the Indian Subcontinent, lists the name Mahati (f) 'great'. I think this is the name's Sanskrit form.

I think the meaning of "mahathi" is great. Also there is a raaga in carnatic music with that name. And I dunno if this is rite but then its believed that the name of the veena that narada holds also is the same.
