Re: Gamel / Gamelus - sorry Pavlos, it's Norse..
Gamel is a fairly common Norse given name, brought over to England by the Nordic invaders in the early middle ages (400-1000AD), which gives rise to the surname Gamble in the UK. I think the details are in Withycombe's ODECN. I can't remember the exact meaning - I'll look it up and post tomorrow. It is unlikely bordering on impossible that this name is any form of the Greek Gamelios/Gamelia.I am a little curious as to how anyone is a ble to trace their family back so far...

I believe the Norse given name of "Gamel" means "old". Is so?-- Nanaea
