The "Gavri" comes from the root which in the bible ment mostly "power" or "strength".
(today it means mostly "heroism". Also "Gvura" from the same root is another name for God.)
I don't know (and didn't find in the dictionary) any connection to "word" or "words".

Shay, are you posting from a kibbutz? I ask, because your Internet server appears to be Mishkei Hakibbutzim. When I was a teenager, I very much wanted to experience life on a kibbutz, but never really got the opportunity.

...too bad we can't put some sort of drug in the water that could alleviate all the "moo squishy" going on over there (If you want an explanation of the phrase "moo squishy", just e-mail me, okay? I want to be able to remain on the board. :lol:)

A theory about where the mistake came from
in the Hebrew writting of the name GABRIEL, if you change just the first letter to another, it WILL mean exactly "words of God".
Maybe this created the confusion somehow...
