Zerirah is my ggggranndmothers name. I haven't a clue as to ethnic background however she married a Claudius in the early 1800's. Has anyone ever heard this name before ?? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently, your Zerirah Hubbard wasn't the only woman to have borne that first name, although darned if I can figure out its derivation.I'd take a guess that it may have been a misheard biblical name which got passed on to a child, as I also found another early American Zerirah married to a Resolved (which is a Puritan name). Some possibilities (although feminine-sounding, these are all actually the names of males from the bible):Seraiah - "prince of the Lord"
Zerah - "east, brightness"
Zerahiah - "the lord is rising; brightness of the lord"-- Nanaea
