MacKenzie
i noticed that MacKenzie can be m of f, but i always considered it to be male. I was very surprised to see it in the top names for girls in US. coming from england i have never heard anyone of this name before. i like it and hope to call a son i have MacKenzie one day in the future. i wonder if any one thinks this is more of a girls name than a boys?

It is more commonly used as a girls name in the U.S. although, the "Mac" does mean son of. It has always been a favorite name of mine for a girl, but it would make more sense for a boy, given it's meaning.SJ

I think the name MacKenzie is so cute....but i wouldn't use it for a girl even if it means son of. I am going to name my little girl Hayden Mackenzie!

I have only ever heard the name Makenzie used for a girl. I suppose it would depend on where you placed the emphasis- MAC kenzie (male) or MA kenzie (female). Origin or not, it is widely accepted as a girl's name in the US.Hope it helps!Christina

I only know of one guy named this, Mackenzie (not with a capital K). He was called Mac, for short.

I believe the prefix "Mac" means "son of", so I'm not sure how this has come into recent use as a girl's name. (Maybe after an ancestor's surname or one of the many "Mackenzie" place names.) Seems more logical as a boys name to me!

Never underestimate the ignorance of the American child-bearing public...

Indeed. It seems that a goodly number of 'em believe that Chloe and Zoe rhyme with Joe.
