Is Arielle a French feminine form of Ariel, or a modern English coinage?

I assumed it was French, as it follows an obvious pattern (Gabriel > Gabrielle; Daniel --> Danielle) but I've not yet come across a French speaker using it.

Hi :)

I'm french (living in Corsica) and Arielle is used here. There's the famous actress/singer Arielle Dombasle, and I know two Arielle in real life. It may be both english and french, but I've always assumed it was french.
