Theda
How is it pronounced (I just realized I'm not entirely sure)? And was it used before Theda Bara used it (before 1914)?

Since it is German, probably ted-ah?The name Theda Bara was created by mixing the letters of "Arab Death" :)

Good grief! What a bizarre way to form a name! Makes all the modern celebs with their Apples and Romeos look positively boring ...

At least Theda Bara named herself that and not her child! And I think it's a really pretty name. Her real name was Theodosia Goodman, so Theda was a nn of Theodosia (unless she made it up, which I'm still not sure about, but it she made it up it's still really cool). Besides, it would probably be better to name your child after her than most actresses around today...let's see...she began her career as a sex symbol at the age of twenty-nine when that was considered old, she was married to one man her entire married life, and she was a very unique actress.

I agree 100%. At least at that time you didn't have to be skinny. I just noticed that she was born on 29 July like me. How cool!
