The most attractive-sounding names will surely be the most popular names at any given time? Most attractive to the majority of namers, anyway.
There have been some studies on how names affect people's perceptions of people. This is a nice, easy one - you duplicate an essay and give it to a room full of student teachers to grade; everyone gets the same essay, but the "name" of the writer gets changed. As far as I recall, for boys Ryan and David outperform Mervyn and Reggie; don't remember any girl examples, but you get the idea.
