I am naming my son after his father (my husband), same exact spelling and name. My husband is alive. However, my husband was named after his grandfather, same name and spelling.
Should my son be called junior or will he be the third?

Either... Technically, I think, he's the third, but that sounds so pompous to me. Call him Junior. (Nobody that's not family will known there were other men besides his father with that name.)

He is 'III', however...
On the death of your husbands grandfather he would become Junior.

He will be called the third, because he is named after his grandfather!

Well your husband since he's named after his grandfather should be a II. Thus your son would be a III.
