UK middle class names? (m)
Hi, I'm trying to find a list of "typical" names that are given to middle class babies in the UK (for a writing project). I've been told that a good source is the list of the most popular names in the birth announcements in the Times of London. It is published at the end of each year. Unfortunately, I am unable to access this information at any of the libraries in my area. Are there any name-obsessed UK types who post here who know this information off the top of their heads? If not, can someone please tell me what they consider to be the "typical" name choices of middle class/ upwardly mobile Brits these days? (Imogen? William? Esme?)Thanks.

You're right that The Times would be a good source; The Telegraph is probably even better, and The Guardian is hopeless - presumably socialists reproduce asexually. But for some or other legal reason, you won't find these entries on their websites, which disappoints me greatly. So your best hope is some other source. You might find it easier to access something like Burke's Peerage in a public library. You'd have to trawl through vast numbers of entries, but they should be illuminating.
