What canyou tell me about the name Shoneugh?
Hi,I have spent my life attempting to answer the questions - where is that name from? What does it mean - and I can't say that I didn't wish I had the answersMy parents are not very forthcoming about the whys of my name except that it was determined it ought to be gaelic - and that my fahter and his buddy choose it from a book whilst under the infuence of scotch - I am not sure how much I beleive this part but there you are. My parents are both scottish so the gaelic connection rings true . I have never seen my name anywhere else and when I type it into a search engine the only times it appears is where I am listed.Anyone who can shed some light on this mystery? Thanks.

It looks as if it sounds like Seonaid, which is often written as Shona. And, since Moira and Sheila can be written as Moiragh and Shelagh, that probably explains the ending.I wouldn't discount the Scotch in the story - hope their hangovers were worth it!

Well, it's definitely unique. A Google search found the name used only in the combination Shoneugh Edwards - you!How is it pronounced? Maybe it's a "Gaelicized" version of another name (like Shona).

Try "Shonagh"According to Kate Monk's Onomastikon, "Shonagh" is a Scottish cognate of "Joan/Jean".http://www.gaminggeeks.org/Resources/KateMonk/England-Firstnames/Variants/Celtic-Female.htmI would guess that Ms. Edwards' name is most likely a variant Scottish spelling of the same name.-- Nanaea
