You don't know Spanish, so your pronunciation is not the pronunciation of the name.

I actually am studying Spanish at the moment. I know someone with this name, and have completely got the pronounciation correct.

Your guess about the pronunciation is wrong. In Spanish the ONLY way to pronounce the diphthong ie after a consonant (in Nie-) is [je] (['njebes]). The rest of pronunciations are mispronunciations.
