The Tootsie Roll candy was named after an Austrian man's daughter Tootsie in the 1800s(I think).
Is that a nickname or pet name for another name or is/was that an actual name in Austria?-Seda*

My mother was nicknamed "Tootsiebelle" by her grandfather. She has been called it most of her life (poor thing). Tootsie ment sweet and belle, of course, means beautiful.
