Is the male name Krishna used as an everyday name in India/Hindu-influenced places or would it be similar to a person named Zeus?

I've also heard of the female variation Kristae (kris-TAY-uh)used in India.

No idea what part of India, or last name. I only know about it because I have a friend who was born in India and adopted to America. Her parents named her Christae, which is apparently a made-up Christianized spelling of Kristae. It might be spelled Krishtae, too. I don't know.

That does not sound like from any part of India that I know and I cannot recognize the original Indian language from its form either.

Names which are often shortened to Krishna are more common (e.g. Krishnamoorthy, Krishnagopal), but Krishna itself is also quite common, especially, but not exclusively, in South India. The female name Krishna (with a long -a as in English car, instead of the schwa) is common also in the north, as also the male middle name. Derived forms like Kishan appear as well.
