My name
Ok, I am truly amazed that my name even appears on this site. It shows that it is Swedish (correct) and is another form of "Margaret". "Margaret" has the correct pronunication listed next to it, but "Marit" does not. I know how it should be pronounced, but want to re-affirm that I have not been correcting people my entire life in vain.

Mah-rit (long aah sound, as in the word "car") is how Marit is pronounced in Scandinavia. It's quite a common name, actually. In Finland, it is spelled Maarit (with two a's to indicate the long vowel sound). The future queen of Norway (wife to Crown Prince Haakon) is called Mette-Marit.
