Re: What is the meaning of the name Aryaan?
Aryaan or Aryan are quite popular names in India (our history extends far beyond the Hitler's Germany so it is not such a big deal up there). Why should we give up names we have kept for 100's or 1000's of years just because some idiot had silly notions about humanity and race and misinterpreted history and text??? I guess it's kind of like how Damien became unpopular after the Omen series!Aryan means "noble" or "son of a noble" if you take Aryaan with a double a and split it up, Arya means noble/honoured/someone of high birth depending on your interpretation and "Aan" or "ahn" means to prosper and flourish. It's not so much elitist as giving your kids something to aspire to, just like naming your son "king of the world" or "king of kings" is not unusual in Asia.If you are German or WASPy and have Jewish friends and neighbours I suggest you avoid it in case it upsets them...otherwise you will have to keep justifying it and your child may get a hard time in school. It all depends on where you live and what kind of commmunity you have around you.Rayaan is a popular alternative for Aryaan you might want to consider.
