Archivesname origin and/or meaning
I am an african american female with maternal and paternal grandparent mixes to include native american and caucasion. I have been told that my name is of african and french decent. I live in the south just past new orleans. I have searched for the meaning/origin of my name for years -- no luck. If there is anyone out there that could provide a resource or information that would assist me in finding the aformentioned it would be greatly appreciated. Are you named after someone older in your family, or are you the first Le'Kaja in the family? How is the name pronounced?
Who told you the name was of "African and French" origin? Have your parents told you just why they chose it?
Le'Kaja looks like a fairly typical modern African-American creation. Someone may have told you it's "African and French" because the prefix Le- has been abstracted out from French surnames like Leroy or Lefebvre, where it means "the".
Kaja, like a lot of short words, has multiple uses in many different languages. Through Google I was able to find a couple of African place names that contain it (a place called Kaja in Katanga province, Congo; and a place or stream called Wadi Kaja in Chad). Perhaps someone found the place name on an African map and added Le- in front to make it seem like more like what they thought of as a woman's name. However, at the moment that is just a wild guess, and you would have to do a lot more research on where your family found the name to see whether or not such an explanation has any chance of really being the correct one. :)
