Re: Where was the name Spirit started?
I don't know about the world, but according to howmanyofme.com, there are fewer than 1,547 people named Spirit in the U.S."It's the job that is never started that takes the longest to finish." - J.R.R. TolkienVOTE on my Name List

There is a very old French name Esprit, which is the name of a Catholic saint and refers to the Holy Spirit.I would imagine that Spirit is the direct English translation of the French name. (Which is male). I have also seen the feminine name Spirita used in medieval documents, often spelled Sprota or Sprotta. I'd imagine this may also be one of the origins of the name.
