Re: Does anyone have a meaning for the name "Nyah"?
*Finally* found a meaning for "Nyah". (This question has come up several times in the past on this board, Christine.)According to this website, "Nyah" is a Swahili name meaning: "Purpose".http://www.celebratingchildren.com/names_n.htmlConsidering the fact that the actress (Thandie Newton) who portrays the character of Nyah Hall in *Mission: Impossible 2* was born in Zambia, Africa, I'd say that the fictional Nyah Hall's heritage is probably African, too. So the "Nyah" that has suddenly become a popular name because of exposure from that movie may just likely be the Swahili "Nyah" listed at the website above (under the entry: "Nia").-- Nanaea

We also named our daughter Nyah because of the film Mi 2. We thought it was a beautiful and unusual name. I have been trying to find a meaning of the name but all i could find was a place called Nyah in Australia. The name Nia doesn't seem, to me, to similar to Nyah.

My first name is Nyah and I love the name. At first, I found it unusual and I wanted to be named Natalie or some other common name. However, I am not just an ordinary person I am a unique one. And I guess that my name just totally describes the outgoing /driven person that am.
