Phryne
According to dictionary.com: real name Muesarete. 4th century bc , Greek courtesan; lover of Praxiteles and model for Apelles' painting Aphrodite Rising from the Waves I'm curious about how to pronounce it. I'm currently reading a Phryne Fisher mystery by Kerry Greenwood. Thanks!

Apparently it is FRIE-nee in English. I used to pronounce it FRIN, inside my head at least. Interestingly the name means "toad" in Greek; the ancient Greek courtesan was so called because of her yellowish complexion.

I looked up Phryne when I read one of those books. I think it was Fry-nee - I have a feeling it was explained in the text of the one I read. Can't remember for sure though.

I don't know how to pronounce it..however, what is your take? Fry-ne? Pah-rine?
I'm surprised the story doesn't give a clue, perhaps further in the story.
