I like the name Bam, but I looked it up here before and I didn't get much. I hear the name used on the Flintstones, and on Jackass and Viva La Bam. Is this really a name? Or is Bam a nick name. If it's a nick name, what is it a nick name for? Is it short for anything?

I wouldn't recommed Wikipedia for most things, but figuring out where cartoon characters or reality show stars get their nicknames/names from seems to be an OK use of it:

I know Bam as a surname, used in South Africa by people of Dutch and German descent, but I don't know what it means. Perhaps the Surnames Board people could help?
