the only time i've heard it used (not being from a predominantly arabic area) - and i'm guessing it's a variant of the same name because of the look and pronunciation, but i don't know that for sure is the singer-songwriter (male) sufjan stevens.

I don't know anyone with the name, but it seems to be common in the Maghreb (and, by extension, Moroccan/Algerian communities in France).
