Piyali
This is a Bengali name, I heard recently. Sounded to me more like pyali in Urdu meaning a small saucer but it read on net that it means wood or tree. I would like to know if this name has any Sanskrit origin to it.

Don't know for sure, but there is a common tree Buchanania Latifolia Roxburgh which is called piYAla in Bengali and Sanskrit, probably originally from priYAla derived from the root prI, to please, which is cognate with the root of English friend. It is commonly mentioned in literature and is also used as a boy's name in some parts of bengal. I suspect piYAlI derives from this.
