Re: Diana, Fern, Anthony, Ivor
in reply to a message by Effie
I really like Diana a lot, but the likelihood of it morphing into Di would stop me from using it except perhaps as a mn. (Plus, I'm no fan of the late princess.)Fern? Not really. I knew a doltish Fern once, and I had a Fernanda colleague who was known as Fernie behind her back, so perhaps I'm biased. Anthony is excellent, but Tony is trite and Anton (and indeed Ant. Shudder.) is overused where I live.Ivor could have stepped out of a dozen 1920s novels; not a bad name at all, but nothing seems to have happened to make it feel new.
