From what I gather using family names is traditional for Drew's family (both her first and middle names are family last names and the same for her siblings and other family members).

My thought on that was that she's the only Barrymore still in acting, so she wanted to pass the name on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrymore_family
