Re: Hobbit names (female)
in reply to a message by zizi
Wow. What a list. I have to say I'm in a Germanic mood this morning, at least where hobbits are concerned. I'm really digging:Adaldrida (prefer Etheldreda)
Alfrida (cousin to Alfreda / Elfriede / Elfreda?)
Eglantine (not Germanic per se, but that "egg" sound is irresistable)
Gerda (zing!)
Hilda / Hildegarde
Myrtle (again, not Germanic -- just a personal favorite)Tolkien missed an opportunity with Ermenegilda.

RE:Ermengilda..our former provincial Lieutenant-Governor was named Hermengilde. He's French-speaking,so I assume that's the male, French version of the name.He was an excellent Lieutenant-Governor (they serve for approx.5 years)Actually they nearly always are good!

Mais, bien surOf course he was an excellent Lieutenant-Governor. How could a Hermengilde be anything else? Yay for good governance, and yay for the name Hermengilde / Ermenegilde / Hermenegildo.
